A delicious Japanese street food made with cabbage, batter, and various toppings, often called a “Japanese pizza.”

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup dashi stock (or water)
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups shredded cabbage
  • 1/4 cup green onions (chopped)
  • 1/4 cup cooked bacon or seafood (optional)
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp okonomiyaki sauce (or Worcestershire sauce mix)
  • 1 tbsp Japanese mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp bonito flakes (katsuobushi)
  • 1 tsp dried seaweed flakes (aonori)

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, mix flour, dashi (or water), and egg to form a smooth batter.
  2. Fold in cabbage, green onions, and bacon/seafood if using.
  3. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Pour in the batter and flatten into a round pancake shape.
  4. Cook for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through.
  5. Transfer to a plate and drizzle with okonomiyaki sauce and mayonnaise.
  6. Sprinkle bonito flakes and seaweed flakes on top. Serve hot!
